Following a string of impressive performances for both club and country, South African footballer Iqraam Rayners has caught the attention of Scottish giants Rangers, with the club reportedly inquiring about his availability.
As South African players continue to attract attention from European clubs after the recent resurgence of Bafana Bafana, Rangers are the latest to show interest. The club has previously eyed talent from South Africa, including Orlando Pirates winger Relebohile Mofokeng, although a move never materialized, and Mofokeng has since become a regular feature for both his club and the national team.
Now, Rangers have turned their focus to Rayners, who currently plays for Mamelodi Sundowns. According to recent reports, the Scottish side has made inquiries to Sundowns about potentially acquiring the 25-year-old forward. A source shared, “There has been an inquiry about Iqraam Rayners from Rangers. However, there hasn’t been an official offer yet. They are monitoring him closely.”
Further reports suggest that Rangers’ interest in Rayners is not a new development. A second source revealed, “This isn’t the first time Rangers have shown interest in him. They were keen on him before he joined Sundowns, but they were slow in acting, which allowed Sundowns to secure his signature. Now they are back in the market for him.”

Rayners made the switch from Stellenbosch FC to Mamelodi Sundowns at the start of the current season, and he has already made a significant impact. In just 10 appearances across all competitions, Rayners has netted seven goals, showcasing his lethal finishing ability. His form has also earned him regular call-ups to the national team, where he has continued to impress.
With Rangers reportedly keeping a close eye on his progress, the next few months could prove crucial for Rayners’ future. Sundowns fans may be left wondering whether the club would consider letting go of their in-form striker if a move to Europe materializes.
