Download Music: Lukas Graham – You’re Not The Only One (Redemption Song)
“You’re Not The Only One” by Lukas Graham might have turn out to be his greatest song of all time as he shared the powerful inspiration behind the Redemption Song.
Lukas wrote:
Bob Marley, for me, was a bigger influence than John Lennon or Mick Jagger. Bob Marley, for me, was a bigger inspiration than Prince or Michael Jackson and for good reason.
I don’t think we have any songwriters that wrote so much from this non selfish place. We’re all trying to achieve something; we’re all trying to go somewhere. There was this interview with Bob Marley when this guy asks him, “Are you rich? Do you have a lot of possessions?”
Bob Marley just looks at him and says, “Does possessions make you rich?” That’s how I grew up. I grew up wearing secondhand clothes. I walked half a mile to get a shower, got new shoes when money came, like from the government to buy shoes, the shoe money. I don’t think of my childhood as being impoverished in any way. I asked my mom when I was 20, “Were we poor?” She said, “Only in material wealth.”
When I think of “Redemption Song,” when I think of Bob Marley’s “Redemption Song,” it’s everything from the war in Yugoslavia and all the Bosnian and Serb kids we grew up with because of that war and the refugees it created. It’s everything really. Everything’s selfish about this world.
